There wer 30-40 cats found living on abandoned property by a Utilities serviceman who was giving notice off a power shutoff due to nonpayment. The Humane society has to wait a week(i think) before they can be officially declared abandoned and taken in for treatment, which they desperately need. Its estimated that theyve been alone for about a month living a trashed trailer, with no fresh source of food or water, and a gigantic wasps nest in the kitchen. Almost every cat has a respiratory and/or eye infection which needs medical attention. These are domestic cats and by no means wild, that were abandoned with no means of sustaining themselves. For now, at least, the people at the Humane society come up to feed and water them once a day. They're using a peice of trailer siding that was ripped off for a food dish.

I've seen these situations a few times. How was the smell?

I'm wondering if this shot could be cropped in further on the right. The lone cat in the chair who is looking off is very intriguing. The wood piece on the right kind of directs your focus away from the cats...

Sad story, and an intriguing image. You've captured the essence of the scene. (and since you enjoy suggestions) Maybe a smaller aperture to increase depth of field since everything is almost but not quite in focus, only the mid-front area.

That honestly breaks my heart.

Thank you very much for your comments, I appreciate them all. As for the smell, it was horrible. These cats were living in their own bathrooms....The wood piece on the right is part of the wall that was ripped away, but i see how it could be distracting. One thing I try to do is look a a pic far away, enough so that i can see the composition and not the content. And unfortunately, I was trying for stop action without jumping to 1600, and the lighting was very poor. Plus I thought those cats eating should be the main focus, while allowing the viewer to see what a mess they lived in.
